Use Fruit and Vegetable Consumption to reduce disease risk
The Challenge you face
It now takes 10 servings of vegetables today to equal just one serving from 50 years ago! These days the produce you buy at your local grocery store just doesn't have the nutritional power that fruits and vegetables had just a few decades ago. Over-farming, soil depletion, commercial fertilizer, hybrid crops, and genetic modifications are slashing the nutrients in your fruits and vegetables. Which means you have nutritional gaps in your daily food intake. More then ever there is a need for supplements to fill those gaps.
A Balanced Diet is difficult to define, let along achieve, in North America, so The Harvard School of Public Health and The American Medical Association now advise everyone would benefit from taking a daily multivitamin. Food supplements were once though to be optional, but they now have become essential.
The Nutritional Void unfortunately extends to supplements. As some physicians have warned, the multi-billion dollar supplements industry is poorly controlled. Random testing of supplements taken off shelves at major retail outlets has revealed a range of problems, including contamination, rancidity, misleading information, and dangerous ingredients. This means you must do some research into the food supplements you put into your mouth.
Only A Few Companies produce totally terrific supplements, the trick is finding them. Ask some hard questions. Are they plant based, real food concentrates from a certified organic source? What are the quality controls from seed to supplement? Is there third party testing and verification? Do not allow yourself to be mislead by advertising or labels that say things like, just like nature, or nature made, whole foods and other brand or outlet labels.
Bottom Line: Health Starts in the Soil back at the Farm
Soil degradation is one of the major challenges of the twenty first century. My life time background as a third generation farmer tells me we must make soil building the basis of food building in order to achieve optimal health.
